I want to hear from black people who love kids cartoons or used to love kids cartoons.
I want to know the following things:
What do you hate about the way black characters are portrayed in cartoons- what do you think is cliche? What do you think is offensive? What specific personality traits do black cartoon characters have that you’re sick of?
Feel free to be gender specific- what do you notice about how black males are portrayed? What about black females?
What were some things that you liked and disliked about the way black cartoon characters were portrayed when you were a child? Think back to your simplest childhood observations!
How would you like to see black characters portrayed in the future? What are some things you feel like are lacking in the way black characters are portrayed, and how would you change it?
What are some examples of black characters that you think are really successfully portrayed? Who were your favorite black characters from your childhood? Which characters do you feel like really miss the mark?
I want to hear from you, your friends, your parents, and any young people in your life! Especially if you have kids around that you can ask these questions to!
Please reblog, ask your friends and family, and feel free to submit what you think to my blog or e-mail me! I will not publish your answers, and I probably wont respond, but your responses are very, very, very, very, super-duper appreciated!!
I had a dream last night that my fiancee and I were at a gas station waiting in a really long line and we befriended this guy named Pizza who met and married his wife in 8 minutes, and his mom owns the gas station and they invented a new kind of clear mint gum with gel inside and he kept trying to give me his orange cat because his dad wasn’t home.
